A current International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association (IFSA) nonprofit membership is required to register for FWT Qualifier events.

An IFSA annual membership is tax deductible at $105/year.

The IFSA runs Region 2, which includes the Americas (Region 1 is Europe, Asia And Oceania). 

The best from each region, those top ranked by a certain cut off date for point accumulations, compete in an end of season Challenger Series for their region- which includes FWT athletes trying to keep their spot on the tour. The winners of those series get invited to the following season’s Freeride World Tour.

You can enter as many FWT Qualifier events as you want in a season, but only your top 3 results go towards your overall ranking. 

Events are ranked 1-4 stars. The higher the star, the more the points it’s worth per placing… and the higher the registration fee.

Acceptance order into an event is capped at a percentage of entries and based on your 52 week seeding list ranking or a wild card.

The North American FWT Qualifier schedule is released in the fall and starts the following January, beginning in Canada.

While a series sponsorship for registration fees alone would be ~$1-2k, individual events range from $70-$250.

For my 1st FWT Qualifier season, I was living out of my 1999 Honda CR-V I purchased January for the 2021 tour. It’s pictured here at my very 1st FWQ comp, the Grand Targhee 2*. The engine blew on my way back to Gunnison from Purgatory Resort’s closing day 5/14/23.

I bought a 2004 Honda Pilot 7/18/23, which I nicknamed HA-PPY because we both needed sponsors with it having 240k+ miles. HA-PPY’s engine blew in between Breckenridge and Taos competitions in 2024, but not before I won my 1st Gilmore sized check.

I decided to get an auto loan vs purchase another cheaper vehicle that might not last me as long again. I’m incredibly grateful to join #TeamToyota 4/25/2024- not officially sponsored by @ToyotaUSA… yet.

I collect points everywhere I go to save for & help with future stays- Hotels.com, Booking.com, Choice, IHG, Marriott, Wyndham, Hyatt, Hilton, Airbnb, Vrbo…

I can also sleep in my 2010 Toyota Highlander. With the seats laid flat, there’s enough room for me- being 5’1”- to sleep comfortably & I’m no stranger to car camping... 

Endless gratitude to the friends and family who have let me stay with them while traveling to train and compete for these events.

I have been alcohol-free since 4/25/2023 and drinking more water daily.

Enjoying local dining establishments while traveling is one of the best experiences while embracing culture and community. Any chance you get to support a local hunter, farmer or forager is special too.

I also don’t mind  ”roughing it” with my Colman classic camping stove, bringing things from home or supporting local grocers and farmers markets.

I try to take a 1-3 mile walk every day and am doing my best to stretch more.

I have a gym membership to Snowcreek in Mammoth, have joined friends at their local facilities, and used hotel gyms while traveling.
